How do you like your smoothie?
I tried different ways, but only have eyes for one.
I eat my fruit and veggies more than drink them, but every now and then crave this fine-tuned smoothie.
Each time I pull the blender and swirl, the memory of this undeniable snack/dessert rushes back.
I don’t know about you, but found that layers in a blender are important for ease and consistency. For this reason, there’s a:
Method to the Madness
Power Greens – (baby chard, kale, and spinach) these leafy greens add vitamins and minerals
Blueberries – free radical fighting powerhouse in antioxidants, provide fiber, vitamin C and K, manganese
Strawberries – protect our hearts, increase HDL cholesterol, lower blood pressure, more vitamin C than an orange
Banana – healthy dose of fiber, which helps you feel full without extra calories
Chia Seeds – a boost of protein, antioxidants, fiber, calcium, omega-3s
Protein Powder – added nutrients. I only add because the powder adds extra creaminess to the smoothie
Pure Almond Extract – a delicious tasting addition
Crushed Ice – adds a little volume and makes the drink cold
Unsweetened Almond Milk – vitamin E, which equals skin food! Rich in good fat and low in carbohydrates
Garnish
- a few frozen blueberries
- raw cocoa nibs – packed with an impressive amount of vitamins and minerals!
How’s that for a superstar lineup?
Oh, sweet baby.
For me, sinking a few frozen blueberries and cocoa nibs into the smoothie is a must. A sip or in my case, a bite of blueberry gives texture, while the cocoa nibs add crunch.

Notes
- I love me a super cold smoothie, so use frozen fruit but fresh will of course taste great too.
- We'd buy the power greens at Costco and because we can never use the bulk bag in time, we freeze the whole bag, which is perfect for the super cold frozen smoothie!
- If you want or need more protein, by all means.
